Pedosedimentary Evolution and Site Formation Processes in Mirak Mound 8, South of Semnan

چکیده مقاله:

Mirak is one of the open-air Paleolithic sites in the Iranian Central Plateau and the only Iranian archaeological open-air site which has been excavated extensively. The site is comprised of 8 mounds, located in a dry floodplain some kilometers south of Semnan in the northern fringes of the Iranian Central Desert, aka. Dash-I Kavir. Mirak mound no. 8 was selected for the excavation. The mound itself is of Aeolian origin which has been formed throughout Holocene and is responsible for the covering of the Late Pleistocene deposits. Regarding the huge scatters of lithics (archaeological) and the absence of cultural layers in the landscape, it is logical to assume that the aeolian mound has conserved archaeological deposits beneath. Contrary to the mound, Pleistocene cultural deposits were formed under alluvial regime in a floodplain during a period of relatively cold and humid. At least, 4 Paleolithic cultural layers are identified in Mirak. In terminal Pleistocene, a hiatus of some millennia divided the alluvial sequence from the topmost Holocene sediments which was an end to Paleolithic occupation of Mirak.

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

Mound formation in surface growth under shadowing

In this paper we report on the morphological evolution of thin films grown by commonly employed deposition techniques, such as sputtering and chemical vapor deposition. In these deposition techniques, an angular distribution of incident particle flux leads to the shadowing effect, which often plays an important role in defining the growth front morphology. We show both by simulations and experi...

Impact of diagenesis on carbonate mound formation

Impact of diagenesis on carbonate mound formation This thesis is devoted to define the parameters influencing cold-water coral growth and therefore carbonate mound development with a focus on the impact of diagenesis on mound sediments. The first part of this thesis (Chapters 2 to 4) discusses the distribution and growth history of carbonate mounds, the sedimentary processes leading to sediment...

Mound formation and slope selection in irreversible fcc (111) growth

An analytic calculation of the surface current and selected mound angle is presented for the case of irreversible epitaxial growth on an fcc 111 surface with a finite Ehrlich-Schwoebel ES barrier. The special cases of short terraces and combinations of short terraces with facets which lead to large mound slopes are also discussed. We find that for both A and B steps the surface current and sele...
